2006-08-22 22:31The future starts today… and the month ends in a week, so I better get writing. Of course I have come up with lots of great plans which I wish to carry out, document and publish on my blog, but I can’t write a post like “Advice for repairing a computer” every month. For now, I’ll take another step towards the goal I set myself in my previous blog post, of being listed by Technorati as one of the top 1 000 000 blogs. The first bit of good news is that by doing probably nothing, I’ve already increased my ranking significantly: Drab as a fool, aloof as a bard Rank: 1,016,551 (13 links from 1 blog) This is a rise in position of 178 699. But I shouldn’t be dependent on a few blogs, just as a monoculture is bad for the survival of a group. My next step, then, is signing up with Technorati and claiming my blog, a simple 4 step process (after creating an account with them, which doesn’t seem very Web 3,0). The way that relates to this post is that I have to include this link to my Technorati Profile, tying my account information to a page on my blog, and vice versa. From here I am in a position to make people’s links to my blog better known, and mine to theirs. After a bit of trouble with Technorati logging me out as soon as I log in, and messages about their site being overloaded, I was greeted with Congratulations! You’ve claimed your blog. Now please tell us a little more about it. and the effect it had on my ranking: Drab as a fool, aloof as a bard Rank: 1,019,979 (13 links from 1 blog) Thanks for nothing Technorati. Looks like if I’m serious about this, I’ll have to take more action. For those who are considering going through this process, I should jokingly warn you that there is a secret step 5: Release the Spiders! That is the actual text of a button Technorati include after the list of 4 steps, as shown in their HTML here: <p style="margin-bottom: 0.25em;">Check to make sure your new post is live, then you’re ready to proceed.</p> <input onclick="parseForClaimCode(‘http://esuna.co.uk/~hagfish’, ‘foo’, ‘bar’, ‘baz’, ‘qux’, ‘http://static.technorati.com/static’);return false" value="Release the Spiders!" type="button"> where Is the Technorati binary relation between a subset of ℕ and the set {all the URLs of the blogosphere known to Technorati} a valid function?
